Frequently Asked Questions
What is a White Card, and who needs one?
A White Card is the mandatory construction induction required for anyone who wants to carry out construction work in Queensland. It demonstrates that you have completed general safety training and understand how to identify hazards, manage risks, and work safely on construction sites. Whether you’re starting a career in construction, visiting active worksites, or working in a trade, you’ll need a valid White Card before commencing work.
How to get a White Card QLD qualification?
Getting your White Card is simple. Book a WorkSafe QLD-approved White Card course with an RTO, attend the face-to-face training, and successfully complete the required assessments. Once you’ve passed, you’ll receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment and a same-day official White Card
What is the official White Card course?
Is my Queensland White Card recognised in other Australian states?
Yes. A White Card issued in Queensland is nationally recognised and accepted throughout Australia under mutual recognition arrangements. While your White Card allows you to work across Australia, some employers or construction sites may require additional site-specific inductions before you begin work.
What will I learn during the White Card course?
During the course, you’ll develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to work safely on construction sites.
Topics include:
- Construction health and safety legislation
- Identifying common workplace hazards
- Assessing and controlling risks
- Using personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Safe work practices
- Emergency procedures
- Reporting hazards and incidents
- Understanding your responsibilities and those of employers and supervisors
How long does the White Card course take?
Our Queensland White Card course is completed in just one day. Course duration is only 4.5 hours – enrol with us today!
Is the course delivered face-to-face or online?
In Queensland, White Card training must be completed face-to-face with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). This ensures participants receive practical instruction and complete the required assessment under the supervision of a qualified trainer.
What do I need to bring on the day?
To complete your White Card course, you’ll need to bring:
- Valid photo identification
- Your Unique Student Identifier (USI)
- Comfortable clothing suitable for practical activities
- Closed-in shoes
- Any required reading glasses or personal items
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled course start time to complete the check-in process.
Do I need a Unique Student Identifier (USI)?
Yes. A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is required for anyone completing nationally recognised training in Australia. Your USI allows your Statement of Attainment to be issued and recorded on your national training record. If you don’t already have one, you can create a USI online before attending your course.
When will I receive my White Card?
After successfully completing the course, you’ll receive your nationally recognised Statement of Attainment and a same-day official White Card issued by WorkSafe QLD.
Does my White Card expire?
No. Your Queensland White Card does not have an expiry date. However, if you’ve been away from the construction industry for an extended period, employers may recommend refresher training to ensure your safety knowledge remains current.

Queensland does not have a public online search tool for looking up your White Card number. If you’ve lost your card or can’t remember your number, there are a few ways to retrieve your details:
- Contact your training provider (RTO): Reach out to the Registered Training Organisation where you completed your White Card course. They can access your training records, provide a copy of your Statement of Attainment, and help you locate your White Card number.
- Check your records: Your White Card number may be listed on your Statement of Attainment, course completion certificate, or in your original confirmation emails.
- Contact Workplace Health and Safety Queensland: If you can’t remember which RTO you trained with, call 1300 362 128 (Monday to Friday, 8:00 am–5:30 pm). They may be able to help identify your training record using your personal details.
- Apply for a replacement card: If your White Card has been lost, stolen or damaged, you can request a replacement through your original training provider or another approved provider. You may be asked to provide identification and your Statement of Attainment.
